In Memory of Dr. Gareth Addidle

2026-01-25

The International Public Management Network and International Public Management Review honor the memory of Dr. Gareth Addidle, who passed away in December 2025. Gareth served as Associate Professor in Criminology at the University of Bradford and was a valued associate editor of International Public Management Review. His scholarly work spanned vulnerability, policing, governance, community safety, and multi-agency partnership working, contributing importantly to how public management intersects with real-world challenges of risk and support for vulnerable populations.

A graduate of Glasgow Caledonian University with a doctorate from Plymouth University, Gareth held academic roles at several UK institutions and collaborated extensively with police services, inspectorates, and academic partners. His research addressed pressing contemporary themes, from governance and policing to the coordination of services for those most in need. He co-edited the volume Public Management and Vulnerability: Contextualising Change, reflecting his commitment to understanding how public institutions respond to complex social problems.

Within IPMN and International Public Management Review, Gareth brought insight, rigor, and collegial generosity to editorial work. His contributions helped strengthen the journal’s engagement with issues of public management that matter deeply to both scholarship and practice.

We extend our deepest condolences to his children, family, friends, and colleagues. His dedication to the field will continue to inspire those who study and practice public management, particularly where governance, vulnerability, and collaboration intersect.
